About EPA 608 Certification
The EPA 608 certification is required for all HVACR technicians who work with refrigerants. The certification is divided into four types:
- Core: Required for all certification types. Covers environmental impact, laws, and regulations.
- Type I: For technicians who service small appliances under 5 pounds of refrigerant.
- Type II: For technicians who service high-pressure equipment over 5 pounds.
- Type III: For technicians who service low-pressure equipment.
- Universal: Combines all three types (I, II, and III).
A passing score of 70% (18 out of 25 questions) is required for each section. The Core section must be passed to receive any certification.
